Description
I haven't ventured too far from the house lately to find subjects to paint so I decided to do a couple more tulips. The original piece is 9.75"x13.75" in size and is painted with Daniel Smith and Rublev watercolor paints on Arches 140# cold-pressed paper.

William Band
Great Style Ken, I agree with all other comments, great style.
Ken Powers replied:
Thank you William! It is tough to make tulips interesting but I am working at it!
Joe Triano
Color richness and composition are outstanding Ken - all the best brother!! . .......Joe
Ken Powers replied:
Thank you Joe! I have been striving for a bit more contrast and richness this year.
Andee Photography
This is so pretty Ken. I always have a hard time in photographing the red or deep pink tulip and make it look pretty without loosing the detail! You have painted it lovely showing off it's detail so nice! :)
Ken Powers replied:
Thank you Andee! I have a tough time scanning my paintings and getting certain color details to come through correctly. This one did pretty well. Purples and pinks seem to be difficult to photograph and scan.
Warren Thompson
Very nice. Great darks and lights, The background is beautiful as well.
Ken Powers replied:
Thank you Warren! I wasn't able to keep as much white paper as I wanted while the paint was "traveling" but I am still pleased with the end result. Thanks for the encouragement!
Peri Craig
This is lovely, Marsha! They seem so simple, and yet are so profoundly complex and captivating! Favorite!
Ken Powers replied:
Thank you Peri! The subject is about as simple as they come. I tried to increase the complexity through the composition so I am glad it came through in the final work!
Marsha Elliott
I love the folds in the leaves and those yellow tipped petals. The whole image glows against that dark background. Nicely done, Ken.
Ken Powers replied:
Thank you Marsha! That background really helps with the contrast and makes everything pop in this one. I had fun with it even if it is a touch looser than I normally paint!
