Description
This lighting only lasts a minute. The rising sun had just cleared the eastern horizon but not yet as high as the cloud deck of stratocumulus. The sky was not quite overcast as the western horizon was clear. A low level deformation could be used to explain the boundaries of the low cloud. The brilliant shade of rosy orange was the result of Rayleigh scattering of the blue light out of the direct beam from the sun. This direct beam was reaching the western shore of Singleton Lake after rising above the eastern horizon but before being blocked by the layer of stratocumulus to the east. The lighting would only last for a magical minute. There were some enhanced cumulus in the cloud deck producing wisps of virga. These towers of cumulus were probably the result of night-time, cloud top cooling.
I save inspiration like this for days when it is impossible to paint outside. It was raining hard outside and that rain resulted in lots of spring time flooding.
